Key Verse
The Emmaus Disciples
In Luke 24:13-35, Jesus met two men on the road to Emmaus. This was after His resurrection, but the men did not recognize Him. They were reading Scripture, and Jesus helped them understand that all Scripture tells about Him! After Adam and Eve sinned, God began working out His plan to send Jesus to rescue people from sin. The Old Testament points forward to Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection—the time when Jesus would bring God’s promised salvation for sinners! Ask your kids how they might respond if they met with Jesus on a road.

Jesus Appeared to the Disciples
After Jesus was raised from the dead, He appeared to more than 500 people! Jesus’ resurrection is proof that God was pleased with His sacrifice and had granted pardon to any who love and trust in Him. Jesus is alive today! Ask kids if they would have a hard believing that someone had seen Jesus after His crucifixion if they had been in Jerusalem that day. Ask them what they would think if 500 people told them that they had seen Jesus.

Jesus Served Breakfast by the Sea
Jesus’ disciples had denied knowing Him and ran away when Jesus was arrested. Even though they had not stood by Jesus during that time, Jesus showed as He served the disciples breakfast that He loved them and that through His sacrifice, He has made all things right again. Jesus still wanted to use them in God’s plan, even though they had messed up. Ask kids to talk about how they feel when they mess up. Ask them what they can do when that happens. (They can ask for forgiveness, make it right, and so forth.)

Jesus Ascended to Heaven
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to more than 500 people. He proved that He had beaten sin and death. After Jesus was on earth for 40 days after His resurrection, He ascended into heaven. Before He went, He promised that He would not leave us alone, but He would send the Holy Spirit to dwell inside every follower of Jesus. The Holy Spirit helps us do God’s work on earth while we wait for Jesus to come back and make all things new! How do you see the Holy Spirit’s work in your life?

The Holy Spirit Came
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within His followers. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, the disciples were able to begin their work in sharing the gospel with the entire world. Through them, many churches were begun! God gives the Holy Spirit those who trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior. I’m thankful for the Holy Spirit’s work that gives us power to follow Jesus and changes us to be more like Him.
